Wage change: Fraazo riders strike enters 3rd day

Fraazo delivery workers raising slogan during strike

The strike of delivery workers of Fraazo, an online grocery store, over changes in the remuneration rates entered its third day on June 1 in front of the company’s stores in Noida and Ghaziabad.

Workers said as per the new rates they would be paid Rs 45 per order instead of a fixed daily payment of Rs 500.

According to the All India Gig Workers Union (AIGWU) around 150 delivery workers from five stores are protesting.

The petrol allowance which was earlier Rs 4/km has been scrapped with no fuel surcharge now for “short distances”.

The workers said that the new system will hurt them and thus they have been protesting to revoke the changes.

Intimidation tactics against workers

On the second day of the protest, the company’s legal counsel and the store manager had called the police on the protesting workers.

Workers, however, said that after hearing both sides, the police station in-charge of Noida Sector 22  sided with the workers.

He also appealed to the company counsel for reconciliation with the workers.

As per AIGWU, the company’s zonal manager of Delhi NCR tells striking workers that he cannot do anything to rectify the situation.

The legal counsel has lied to the police that the company is running out of funds.

On the other hand, the company tells the workers that the new payout system will fetch them higher weekly earnings.

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) supported the strike on the third day.

Workers are also demanding paid leave of one day and accident insurance.
